Children with uncontrolled asthma experience more missed school days, disrupted sleep, limited sports participation, illness, emergency room visits and hospitalization than their peers. We aim to improve that through increased awareness and education on the disease.
Our Programs
Community Outreach
Outreach at health fairs, flea markets, churches and schools provides interactive, fun learning activities for children, such as asthma bingo, word search, crossword games, word mazes and asthma education utilizing lung models to demonstrate how asthma impacts the lungs.
Asthma Summer Camps
These one-day camps engage children in interactive learning about asthma. Events are held at public libraries, Boys and Girls Clubs, churches and community centers.
Asthma Management Education
Our evidence-based Asthma and Healthy Homes classes are tailored to specific needs of each audience. The program is led by a team of respiratory therapists, community health workers and health care students who teach in English and Spanish.
Home Visits
To reinforce asthma management education, we make home visits to help families identify triggers in the home that could make asthma symptoms worse for their children. Families who participate in home visits are provided with hypoallergenic mattress and pillow covers along with medication spacers.
